Description
47 and 48 Market Place is a pair of houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of painted brick with stone dressings and have a slate roof. They are three storeys high and consist of two bays, with an additional narrow bay on the right side.
The ground floor features a 20th-century shop front that spans the full width of the building, with separate entrances to the upper floors on either side. The first floor has two wide, shallow bow windows and a flat window in the narrow bay to the right. The bow windows contain tripartite sash windows, with 12-pane sashes facing the front and 8-pane sashes on the sides. To the right, there is a single 8-pane sash window. Above the first floor, there is a moulded timber cornice that runs across the full width of the building.
On the second floor, the windows are similar to those below, except the tripartite windows are flat. All windows have projecting stone sills, and the building features boxed eaves. There is a brick end stack located on the right side.
