Description

This is a barn, likely dating from the late 17th century, with an attached 19th-century horse-engine house. It is located approximately 20 metres northeast of the farmhouse at The Oaks. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble with quoins, and has a stone slate roof, except at the rear which is covered with Welsh slate. The barn has five internal bays and a two-bay outshut to the front left, alongside a horse-engine house to the rear left. A full-height, square-headed cart entry is centrally positioned on the front of the barn. The front of the outshut has been rendered. A lower addition to the left is not of particular architectural interest. The single-storey engine house projects to the right at the rear and has a single bay with a four-sided, apsidal end supported on monolithic piers. There is a partially blocked cart entry at the rear facing the engine house.

Inside the barn, there are four principal-rafter trusses featuring small queen-struts. One arcade post is braced to the tie-beam, and some re-used timber is visible.
