Description

The Brew House at Huthwaite Farmhouse is a pair of dwellings that include an old brewhouse and a garage. The Brew House dates from the 17th century, while the farmhouse is likely from the late 18th century, with the left bay possibly added in the 20th century. The old brewhouse is probably late 18th century, and the garage is from the late 19th century. All structures have been altered over time.

The buildings are constructed of coursed squared rubble and feature a stone slate roof. The Brew House and farmhouse are two storeys high, while the garage and old brewhouse are single storey. They form a continuous range of three bays plus three bays, with the garage located to the left of the farmhouse and the old brewhouse attached to the rear of the Brew House.

The garage has a segmental-arched doorway and a stone parapet. The farmhouse has 20th-century windows on the left and two bays of windows with plain square surrounds, all fitted with 20th-century casements. The Brew House has a quoined entrance flanked by three-light double-chamfered windows, which have missing mullions and 20th-century casements, all featuring hoodmoulds, with the door having square stops. There is one altered three-light window on the first floor, matching the others. The entrance is on the right, with a single window above and a large casement window to the left on the first floor, all from the 19th century with 20th-century casements. The building has two brick ridge stacks.

At the rear of the Brew House, most windows have been altered, but there is one three-light double-chamfered window with a hoodmould on the ground floor. The old brewhouse has a separate roof covered with concrete tiles, features quoins, and includes a six-light flat-faced mullion window. Inside the Brew House, there is a large fireplace with imposts and a keystone, and the old brewhouse has a central large-scantling, re-used truss.
