Description

The Deer Paddock at Forge Croft is a structure dating from before 1746, located in Hunshelf. It is built from gritstone rubble and stands approximately 2 metres high, featuring rubble-on-edge coping. The paddock is roughly elliptical in shape, measuring about 80 metres by 60 metres. The wall of the paddock adjoins some ruinous buildings to the south-west and extends to the south-east, where a gate post remains. There is also a small opening in the east wall. This paddock was used to pen deer in preparation for stag hunts, making it an unusual feature in the area.
