Description

Forge Bridge is a bridge dated 1782, built by Thomas Ramsden. It is constructed of coursed dressed sandstone and features two segmental arches. The bridge has triangular breakwaters and a chamfered band at the base of the parapet, which consists of three deep courses with weathered coping. The ends of the bridge are splayed, with square terminal piers; the north-west pier is inscribed with 'TR 1782'. The bridge spans the River Don and is partly located in the parish of Wortley.
