Description

Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1624, with alterations likely made in the early 19th century, and a front right wing that probably dates from the early 18th century. The left wing is constructed from thinly-coursed rubble, while the rest of the building is rendered. It features a stone slate roof and has a T-plan layout with additional wings to the front right and rear center. The farmhouse is two storeys tall, with a single-bay projecting gabled wing at each end and a two-bay main body.

The near-central entrance has a moulded surround and an arched lintel, above which is a plaque with raised letters that reads: 'JOHNMICKELTHW AITEOWETHTHIS HOUS ANDO1624'. Above the plaque is a square sundial on a corbel, which does not have a gnomon. To the left of the entrance, there is a large three-light window, and to the right, a two-light window, both dating from the late 19th century. On the first floor, there is a three-light flat-faced mullion window to the left of the main body of the house.

The left wing features one four-light double-chamfered window on each floor, both with hoodmoulds, and a later doorway to the left. The roof of this wing has been slightly raised. The right wing has a three-light part-obscured window at low level and a two-light double-chamfered mullion window on the first floor and at the gable apex, the latter being blind. There is a band above the first-floor window and chamfered gable coping on moulded kneelers. The roof of this wing is separate from the main range. At the rear, the rear wing has 19th-century three-light windows. The right return features single, two-, and three-light windows of 19th-century style. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the building was known as the Angel Inn.
