Description
Park View Guest House is a pair of semi-detached houses, now combined into a guest house, dating to 1873 and altered in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of shuttered concrete with flat concrete roofs and extend over four storeys. The north-facing entrance front features two central, four-storey canted bay windows to each house, each with three plain sashes and projecting window ledges supported by brackets. Set back on either side are doorways accessed via seven steps with a balustrade, leading to a porch with columns supporting round arches and openwork balusters. Each doorway has a round-headed door, and above, a single plain sash window. The facade is finished with an openwork balustrade. The rear, originally the garden front, also has two central, four-storey canted bay windows, each with three plain sashes and projecting window ledges supported by brackets, largely with new windows. Flanking these are single basement level windows, above projecting balconies where the iron balustrades have been removed, and the former doors replaced with windows. Above, single windows are present. The interior retains much of its original decoration, including staircases with turned balusters to the main floors and stick balusters above. Ground floor features include coving, ceiling roses, door surrounds and good quality marble and slate fireplaces. Doors and door cases remain on the upper floors, although most fireplaces have been removed.
