Description
The stable range attached to the left wing of Bullhouse Hall, which includes a cottage at the rear, dates back to 1688 and was built for Elkanah Rich. The structure is made of deeply-coursed, squared stone, with the rear constructed from coursed, squared rubble, and it features a Welsh slate roof.
The front has two entrances with shallow segmental heads and a central Diocletian window that is partially blocked, along with a smaller window above and to the left. To the right, there are two round-arched windows with an oculus above. The gable copings are hollow-chamfered and sit on plain kneelers, which are damaged. There are also two ashlar stacks with moulded cornices.
At the rear, there is a Tudor-arched entrance leading to the cottage, along with 20th-century windows. The left gable features a segmental-arched quoined doorway to the right, with the lintel inscribed "E R 1688". The first floor has two cross-windows with a continuous drip mould over them, and there is a blocked window in the gable apex.
