Description

This building is a classroom range located approximately 10 meters northwest of the Chapel at St Peter's School, dating from 1927. It was designed by F.T. Penty and J.E.N. Thompson. The structure is made of orange-brown brick laid in English bond, featuring a chamfered stone plinth, with quoins and dressings of artificial stone. It has a Westmorland slate roof with stone copings and an octagonal brick stack.

The exterior consists of a three-storey centerpiece flanked by two-storey, 11-bay ranges. The staircase bays at the ends of the flanking ranges are gabled. The centerpiece is embattled and has octagonal embattled turrets at each corner, which are decorated with vertical bands of brick and artificial stone. The ground floor features a moulded four-centred archway, while the first floor has a five-light mullioned and transomed window, and above it is a square-headed window with two segment-arched lights. The doorways in the flanking ranges are moulded with four-centred heads and have either sunk-panelled double doors or board single doors.

The first-floor windows in the gabled bays are embattled oriels, and all windows are either two or three-light mullioned and transomed or arranged in bands of multiple lights, with chamfered mullions and transoms and moulded window sills. An ashlar band is located beneath a hollow chamfered first-floor string course. The rear of the building mirrors the principal front but lacks the oriel windows. The interior has not been inspected.
