Description
Ivy Cottage is an early 19th-century house, later used as a hotel, located on Fishergate in York. The exterior is rendered with pebbledash and painted dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof. The west facade has four bays, featuring quoins of painted render. It has rectangular windows with timber architraves set within painted render surrounds. Each window has a moulded triangular head above two casement lights, also with triangular heads. A distinctive four-leafed petal pattern is used for glazing in the triangular sections above the casements, and also in the overlight above the 20th-century front door. The casement lights themselves now have plain rectangular glazing, replacing the more elaborate geometrical glazing previously documented. The doorway, situated in the second bay, is framed by pilasters with sunken panels and a pedimental hood. Chimneys are positioned towards the rear on the left and right. A single-bay section on the south wall features a first-floor window similar to those on the main facade, and a ground-floor lean-to addition. The interior remains uninspected.
