Description
The York City Arms Sports Club is a public house that has been converted into a club, dating from around 1830. It is constructed of brick and features a painted ashlar porch with a hipped slate roof.
The main facade is two storeys high and consists of seven bays. The windows are sashed without glazing bars and have painted rendered lintels. In the third bay, there is a low doorway that has been blocked and now contains a window, with a small additional window to its right. The fourth bay features a tall single-storey porch supported by square columns, which have pilaster responds. Above the cornice and blocking course, there is a large painted stone carving of the York City arms along with Civic Regalia. The entrance door is panelled and includes an overlight. The gutter is held up by rectangular timber brackets.
To the right, the eighth bay has lower eaves and contains an altered casement window on the first floor. Further right, there is a three-bay single-storey wing that has been modified with the insertion of a 20th-century door and surround in the middle bay. The interior has not been inspected.
