Description
23 and 25 Gillygate is a house from the 18th century that was later divided into two houses and is now used as a shop, café, and flats. It was altered around 1800. The building is finished in stucco and has a pantiled roof behind a parapet.
The exterior features two storeys plus an attic. The façade includes two 2-storey canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes and leaded roofs above dentilled timber cornices. There are two attic dormers with catslide roofs and horizontal sashes that also have glazing bars. Each of the two doorways, located on the left and right, has a door with six raised and fielded panels. The doorcases are adorned with fluted engaged columns, open dentilled pediments, and semicircular overlights. Between the two houses, there is a lead rainwater hopper and downspout, along with a chimney positioned in front of the ridge. The interior has not been inspected.
