Description
Station House is a former stationmaster's house built around 1850, likely designed by G T Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and has a Welsh slate roof. It features a central entrance flanked by two cross wings at the rear. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance includes a four-pane door with a radial fanlight, set in a keyed stone surround topped with a moulded cornice. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, located beneath cambered brick arches throughout the building, with those on the ground floor set in shallow recesses. A band runs along the first floor, and stacks rise through the rear pitch of the roof. The York to Scarborough line was opened in 1845.
