Description

Nos. 85, 87, and 89 Goodramgate, which also includes No. 1 King's Square, are early 19th-century houses with shops that were extended in the mid-19th century. The shopfront has a 20th-century design and features round arcaded windows and glazed doors that extend through both fronts. The buildings are constructed of orange-brown brick in Flemish and English garden-wall bonds, with timber guttering and cornice, and slate roofs topped with brick stacks.

The exterior of the Goodramgate side has a four-storey, two-window front for the corner block and a three-storey, three-window range to the left. The King's Square side features a three-window front for the corner block and a four-storey, two-window extension to the right. The corner block has 12-pane sash windows on the first and second floors of both fronts, with the first-floor windows being taller. On the third floor, there are unequal 9-pane sashes, all with painted stone sills and flat arches made of orange gauged brick. The extension on King's Square mirrors this fenestration with arches of common brick. Both sections have a prominent moulded cornice supported by paired modillions, with a fluted bowl rainwater head located at the left end of the Goodramgate front.

The three-storey range on Goodramgate features two 16-pane sashes on both upper floors and a 12-pane sash to the right, all with painted stone sills and cambered arches of orange brick. The guttering is supported on paired modillions. The interior has not been inspected.
