Description

No. 77 Goodramgate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and underwent alterations and extensions in the early 19th century, with further changes made in the 20th century. The front of the building is made of painted brick in Flemish bond, featuring a timber shopfront and a brick cornice with dentils. The rear wing is constructed from orange-brown brick in stretcher bond, topped with pantile roofs and a brick chimney stack; the roof of the wing is hipped where it meets the main roof at the back.

The exterior has a three-storey, three-bay front. The 20th-century shopfront, which has been extended to No. 81, includes a fascia adorned with sports figures and plate glass windows. On the upper floors, the central windows are blind, while the left side features 12-pane sash windows on both floors. The right side has a 16-pane sash window on the first floor and a 9-pane light on the second floor. All upper windows have painted flat arches made of gauged brick, and there is a raised brick band at the first-floor level. At the rear, the windows in the gable end have segmental brick arches.

The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate that there is an original staircase leading from the ground floor to the upper levels. Additionally, on the first floor, there is a carved stone chimneypiece decorated with guilloche and stylised foliage in low relief.
