Description

This late 18th-century house, now incorporating Costcutter Stores, is located on the south side of Main Street, Wheldrake. It is constructed of reddish-pink brick with a pantile roof and follows a double-depth plan. The building is two storeys high with five windows on the first floor. The entrances are positioned off-centre, featuring a 20th-century plank door and glazed overlights, both beneath cambered heads. The shop fronts are glazed, and the original windows are 12-pane sashes with ashlar sills; those on the ground floor are also set beneath cambered heads. A dentil eaves band runs along the top of the building, and there are end and rear stacks. The building has undergone 20th-century alterations and rebuilding. It is included on the list for its group value.
