Description

A pair of houses built in 1843 and designed by J.B. and W. Atkinson for Miss Hazelwood. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and have a slate roof. Each house has two bays and two storeys. The windows are casements with margin panes, set within painted, rusticated stone lintels that have false keystones. The ground-floor casement of number 31 extends to ground level and acts as a French window. First-floor windows have a sill band and cast-iron balconies. Number 29’s balconies have stone bases on corbels and anthemion-pattern railings. Each house features a doorway to the right of its ground-floor window, with a moulded surround, a semicircular head, and a plain overlight. Number 31 has a four-panel door, while number 29 has a 20th-century partly-glazed door. The roofline features a gutter supported by timber brackets, and chimneys are located in front of the ridge to the left of each house. The interior has not been inspected.
