Description

A pair of houses dating to circa 1840, located on the southwest side of The Shambles in York. The front of the buildings are colour-washed plaster with incised render, and feature a timber eaves box. The roof is slate, covered with brick coping, and includes skylights and brick stacks.

The front façade is three stories high, with a two-window arrangement. The shopfronts are double-width, featuring plain pilasters, impost details, and a moulded cornice. The central panelled door has a blocked overlight. Number 27 has a panelled door and a plate glass shop window with sliding transom lights, set above a panelled riser. Number 28 has an altered door and a small-pane shop window. The first and second floor windows of Number 27 are paired four-pane sashes. The windows of Number 28 are twelve-pane sashes with slender glazing bars. The interiors were not inspected.
