Description

27 St Saviourgate is a house that has been converted into flats. The rainwater head is dated 1763, but the ground floor was rebuilt in the 20th century. The ground floor is made of red-brown brick in Flemish bond on a concrete plinth, while the upper floors are constructed of red-painted brick in stretcher bond. The building features a timber doorcase and cornice, and has a pantile roof with brick stacks.

The exterior has three storeys and an attic, with a two-window front. The door consists of six raised and fielded panels within a doorcase that has fluted pilasters and a frieze with a cornice supported by acanthus consoles. To the left of the door is a 16-pane sash window with a flat arch. The first floor has unequal 20-pane sash windows, and the second floor has 16-pane sashes, all featuring grooved wedge lintels. The windows have renewed stone sills. There is a dentil and modillion cornice that returns at the right end, with a moulded rainwater head at the left end. The attic features gabled dormers with 2x6-pane horizontal sliding sashes. A moulded brick band is present at the first floor, and a two-course raised brick band at the second floor, which returns across the gable wall to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
