Description

68 Gillygate is a house that has been converted into a shop, café, and flats. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a plain tile roof that is divided into two halves, with the right side having a higher ridge.

The exterior is two storeys tall plus an attic and consists of three bays. On the ground floor, there are two shop fronts with recessed doorways, timber pilasters, and cornices. Both shop fronts have 20th-century blinds, and the fascia of the left shop front is obscured by a 20th-century board. On the first floor, there is a canted sashed oriel window with a brick base on the left, while the other two first-floor windows are sashes without glazing bars. Above the third bay, there is a flat-roofed attic dormer with a sash window. The central doorway features a timber pilaster doorcase with a dentilled cornice and a plain rectangular overlight. The door itself has six panels with moulded borders. The gutter is supported by rectangular timber brackets, and there are chimneys on both the left and right sides of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
