Description
The drying shed, located to the southeast of the cottages at Blyth Ings Yard in Barton upon Humber, dates from the mid to late 19th century, specifically before 1886. It features an open timber construction topped with a pantiled roof, which was renewed around 1980. The building's posts are supported by square 'quarry tile' pads, indicating its early date and unaltered structure. This drying shed is part of a significant industrial complex, which, along with the associated Blyth yard at Hoe Hill, is the only remaining tilery on the Humber Bank that produces hand-made roof tiles using traditional methods. The entire process is preserved here, from the mill house that processes the clay, through the drying sheds for storing the formed tiles, to the kiln for firing them, which includes an office or lobby for the site foreman and those supervising the kiln firing.
