Description
Burnham Mill is a windmill tower built in 1811, constructed from tarred red brick. It has a tapered round shape and stands four storeys tall. The ground floor features doors on the north and south sides, with single windows on the east and west. The first floor has windows facing north, south, and east, while the second and third floors each have single windows on the north and south sides. All openings are set beneath segmental arches, and the windows have later 19th to 20th century glazing and brick sills. A stepped and cogged brick cornice adorns the top of the tower. The roof, rebuilt in the 20th century, sits on the original rotating cap frame and is topped with a reset original ball finial. Inside, the mill retains its original main beams and floors. Most of the machinery was removed when the mill transitioned from wind to engine power in 1928. It is still operational as a mill and was formerly known as Brock's Mill; since 1905, it has been referred to as Burnham or Wilkinson's Mill. The adjoining outbuildings are not included in the listing.
