Description

The cross base located at the junction of Low Street and Haxey Lane is a medieval structure that has been refaced in the 20th century. It is made of limestone ashlar with a brick facing at the base. The base features two square stone steps, which also have 20th-century refacing, leading up to a drum pedestal. This pedestal has a square-section foot and broach stops that transition to an octagonal upper section, which is significantly worn and has a hollow socket for a former shaft. Additionally, there are three 20th-century vertical iron straps attached to the sides of the pedestal. This cross base is associated with the traditional "Haxey Hood" custom.
