Description

Wrawby Post Mill is a post mill dating from the mid to late 18th century. The base was rebuilt and encased in the 19th century and the mill underwent extensive restoration in 1964. It features a painted weather-boarded timber superstructure set on a tarred brick base with a shingle roof. The base is single-storey and round in shape, with two recessed board doors and one segmental-arched three-light casement. It has a domed roof with sheet metal skirting at the eaves. Above this, the mill tower is rectangular in plan and topped with a pointed-arch roof. At the rear, there is a tail-pole and a flight of steps leading to an entrance with a board door and a hatch above, both fitted with wrought-iron strap hinges. Each floor of the mill tower has a small single casement window. The front of the mill has a full set of four single-shutter sails. Inside, the superstructure is supported by the original cross-tree and main post, which are held up by a timber cross-frame within the brick base. The timber machinery has been largely restored and includes two sets of stones. The mill is in full working order and is a prominent landmark, being the only surviving working post mill in Lincolnshire and Humberside. It is cared for by the Wrawby Mill Preservation Society.
