Description

Kingston House is an 18th-century building with a 19th-century shop front, situated on the south side of Market Place. The upper storey is roughly rendered, topped by a later tile roof with a ridge tile. The building features rusticated quoins and, above the first-floor windows, three blank recessed panels with rusticated lintels incorporating keystones. A stone band separates the ground and first floors. The ground floor incorporates a bowed window with glazing bars on a modern plinth. The front door consists of six fielded panels, two of which are glazed, set within a surround featuring narrow reeded pilasters and a flat hood supported by consoles, accessed by two steps. A mid-19th century shop front with two windows and a heavy cornice is also present. Kingston House, along with numbers 15 to 19 (consec) and number 21, forms a noteworthy group.
