Description
This is a mid-19th century farmhouse located approximately 660 metres north-west of Skyers Farmhouse. It is built of brick and has a pantile roof that has been whitewashed throughout, including the roof itself. The farmhouse is single storey with two rooms and a continuous rear outshut. The south front features an enclosed entrance porch or outhouse at the right angle, with a 12-pane sliding sash window and a 20th-century casement window in the original opening to the left. The roof is hipped with a central ridge stack. The right side has a 12-pane sliding sash window and a small 4-pane sliding sash window in the outshut. The rear includes a small three-light window and a single-light window.
Historically, parts of Haxey Turbary or Carr, where peat turf was once collected, were divided into small plots around the mid-19th century and rented out at low rates. This created a unique settlement pattern of intensively farmed smallholdings with very small cottages, most of which have not survived in their original form. This farmhouse is one of the smallest and least altered examples of the turbary farmhouses still remaining, and it is included for its historical interest.
