Description

Hill Top Farmhouse is located at the junction of Upperthorpe Road and Gollands Lane. This farmhouse dates back to 1769 and has had some minor additions and alterations since then. It is constructed of brown brick, which has been whitewashed on the front and rendered on the left gable end, with a concrete tile roof. The building has a three-room plan with a lobby entry on the right and an original dairy outshut at the rear right, along with a 19th-century outshut addition in the angle.

The south front of the farmhouse is two storeys high and features three first-floor windows. There is a 19th-century half-glazed door set in an original 18th-century frame beneath a segmental arch. To the left of the door, there are two 19th-century four-pane sash windows in flush wood surrounds with sills, also beneath segmental arches. To the right, there is an unsympathetic 20th-century casement window. The first floor retains original 18th-century 12-pane sliding sash windows. The eaves cornice is stepped and cogged brick, and the raised gables have tumbled-in brickwork.

A large ridge stack is located on the right, with a rebuilt upper section from the 19th or 20th century, and there is an end stack on the left. The gable ends feature wrought-iron letters "I W" on the left and the figures "6 9" on the right. Inside, the farmhouse contains beamed ceilings and inglenook fireplaces, although the interior has not been fully investigated. At the time of the resurvey, the building was empty and unoccupied.
