Description
This is a threshing barn located approximately 25 metres north of Newstead Priory Farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century and incorporates medieval masonry. The barn features 20th-century sliding doors and a roof made of asbestos. Constructed from limestone rubble and ashlar, it has a brick-faced plinth on the east side and is partially rendered on the right return. The north entrance is blocked with brick.
The barn has a rectangular plan with opposed entrances and is a single storey with four bays. The east side includes a plinth, a full-height wagon entrance with chamfered jambs, a timber lintel, and a pair of board sliding doors. There is a single slit vent to the left and a pair of vents to the right. Above the right vent, there is a blocked pitching hatch with a lintel at eaves level. The north side features a blocked entrance beneath a timber lintel, which contains a 19th-century two-fold board door beneath a segmental arch, along with a pitching hatch above. This barn is included for its group value.
