Description

The Mount is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-19th century. It’s constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with yellow brick stacks, and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is L-shaped, consisting of a two-room central entrance hall facing south, with a two-room double-depth wing to the rear right. It is two storeys high and symmetrical, with three bays. The design features a chamfered plinth and two stone steps lead to a round-headed entrance with a painted, rubbed-brick arch. This arch contains a recessed doorcase with Tuscan columns, a plain entablature, a six-panel door, and a recessed fanlight. The ground-floor windows are unequal 15-pane recessed sashes with wooden architraves, reveals, blind boxes, stone sills, and painted, rubbed-brick cambered arches. A two-course first-floor band is visible. The first floor has unequal 9-pane sashes, also within rubbed brick cambered arches. A painted raised eaves band, a moulded brick cornice, and projecting wooden guttering complete the exterior. The roof is hipped, with corniced axial stacks to the rear and right return. The right return elevation shows 12-pane ground-floor sashes and unequal 9-pane first-floor sashes, all in reveals with sills and brick cambered arches. Inside, an open-well staircase has a ramped and wreathed handrail, a cut string, plain ribbed balusters, and turned newel posts. A moulded dado rail is present in the entrance hall. Original chimneypieces, panelled window shutters, and doors in architraves are found in the front rooms.
