Description
Scawby Brook Farmhouse and the adjoining barn and stable were built in the late 18th to early 19th century, with later additions from the 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and stacks, and it is colour-washed throughout. It has a pantile roof, while the barn features a concrete tile roof.
The farmhouse has a two-room central entrance-hall plan, with a single-room addition on the right, a later wing, and outshuts at the rear, while the barn is attached to the left side. The barn and stable are located on the north side of the crewyard. The house is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows, presenting a symmetrical facade for its earlier section. The entrance features a panelled door beneath a segmental brick arch, flanked by a pair of 4-pane sash windows and one plate-glass sash window to the right, all with sills and segmental arches. On the first floor, there are three 4-pane sliding sash windows with sills. The eaves cornice is made of three courses of stepped and cogged brick, and there is tumbled-in brick on the right gable. The house has axial and end stacks.
The barn, which is two storeys and three bays wide, has a single-storey, three-bay stable adjoining to the left. The barn features quoins and a blind arcade of three full-height round arches with ashlar imposts. The central board door is beneath a timber lintel and is flanked by pairs of blocked ventilation slots in the side bays. On the first floor, there is a blind square panel in the central bay, flanked by a casement window to the left beneath a timber lintel, and a blocked opening to the right. The barn also has a three-course stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice. The stable has a central board door flanked by slatted wooden ventilation hatches beneath segmental arches, with a brick eaves cornice and tumbled-in brick on the left gable.
At the rear, the barn has a board door beneath a timber lintel, flanked by ventilation slots, and a blocked central first-floor opening with a ventilation slot and a casement window to the right (the left side is obscured by a later outshut). The stable has a 20th-century inserted door. The farm buildings adjoining to the south are not of special interest.
