Description

The Healing War Memorial is a First World War memorial that includes later additions for the Second World War. It is made of stone and is located at the corner of Low Road and The Avenue. The memorial takes the form of a slightly tapering obelisk, topped with a stylised Latin cross carved in relief. It stands on a square plinth and a two-stepped base. On two sides of the obelisk, there are metal plaques. One plaque is inscribed with "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HEALING WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR," followed by the names of those who served. The other plaque reads "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HEALING WHO FELL IN THE SECOND GREAT WAR," also followed by their names.
