Description

This cast-iron milepost, dated 1826, is located on the eastern verge of the unclassified road from East Ravendale to Wold Newton. It features a triangular shaft with facetted sides and a cusped top panel. The raised letters on the north-west side indicate 'WOLD NEWTON, M 0 F 2’, while the south-eastern side reads 'GRIMSBY, M 8 F 3’. The cusped top panel displays ‘LOUTH M 4’. At the base of each facetted side, the location name 'WOLD NEWTON' is also shown in raised lettering. The rear of the milepost includes the date and the manufacturer's information, stating ‘Thorncliffe Iron Works 1826'.
