Description

RYE HOUSE, located at the University of Hull, is a former lodge that now serves as a security and porters' base. Built between 1909 and 1913 by the architectural firm Crouch, Butler & Savage, the building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped plain tile roof with two coped side wall stacks. Notable architectural details include rusticated quoins and dentillated wooden eaves. The structure is a single storey with attics and has a two-window range. The central entrance is framed by a wooden doorcase that holds a panelled door with a lattice glazed panel. Flanking the entrance are canted brick bay windows topped with cornices and featuring three-light wooden glazing bar casements. Above these, there are two hipped dormers, each with two-light glazing bar casements. The building is included for its group value.
