Description

Robbies Public House, formerly known as the Victoria Hotel, is a public house located on Hedon Road in Kingston upon Hull. It was built around 1850 and underwent alterations around 1875 and later in the 19th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features hipped and gabled slate roofs with single gable and ridge stacks. The eaves are adorned with wooden modillions.

The structure is two storeys high and has a five-window range of plain sash windows, with the rightmost window blocked. It occupies an acute angled corner site. The ground floor showcases a very elaborate wooden shop front that includes a plinth, a panelled stallboard, and panelled pilasters with scroll brackets and segmental pediments above a continuous moulded cornice. These pilasters frame the doors and define the bays. The off-centre half-glazed door is topped with an overlight and flanked by single three-light windows featuring wooden mullions and elliptical-arched heads. There are also similar doorways on either side that are now blocked, and to the right, there are two additional three-light windows. The angled corner of the building has a large two-light window with round-cornered lights and a keystone lintel. Above this window, there is an elaborate wooden cornice that matches the style of the shop front, complete with scrolled brackets and pediments at the corners. Below, there is another two-light window similar to the rest of the shop front, flanked by pilasters and topped with a central segmental pediment.

Inside, the bars have been combined and fittings renewed in the late 20th century. There are fragments of wainscotting and a wooden fireplace dating from around 1895.
