Description

Nos. 7, 8, and 9 Whitefriargate are three houses that have been converted into shops. They were built between 1829 and 1830 by Charles Mountain, Junior for Hull Trinity House, and have undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with painted ashlar dressings, and the roof is not visible. They feature two gable stacks and a single ridge stack.

The eaves have a moulded band and blocking, with a moulded cornice present on No. 9. The ground-floor cornice is incomplete. The buildings rise to three storeys and have a total of ten windows. Most windows have brick flat arches. On the left side, there are three 12-pane sash windows, and in the center, there are three similar sash windows, two of which have been partly reglazed. To the right, there are three plain sashes with cornices on consoles, followed by another plain sash. Above these, there are six 6-pane sashes, and to the right of these, there are three similar sashes with moulded architraves, followed by another 6-pane sash.

On the ground floor, there are three late 20th-century shop fronts with plastic fascias. These buildings are part of a larger design by Mountain that includes Nos. 1-9 Whitefriargate.
