Description

This is a warehouse located on High Street in Kingston upon Hull, built in the mid 17th century, with later additions from the mid 18th century and the mid to late 19th century, along with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features both pantile and slate roofs. It is a four-storey structure with coped gables, the one facing the quayside being rendered.

On the left side, there is a loading door that has been filled with a part-glazed wooden panel, and below it, a similar doorway with a large glazing bar window. Both of these openings have 20th-century steel lintels. Above these, there is a two-light casement window on the left and a blocked window on the right, followed by a central two-light casement window. The right side of the building has various blocked openings and a box dormer with a glazing bar window above.

The central range, dating from the mid 18th century and extended in the 19th century, is three storeys high and has a four-window range with an incomplete section of cogged eaves. On the left, there are two two-light windows alternating with two smaller windows. To the right, there is a blocked window followed by another two-light window. Above, there are three two-light windows and a two-light opening under the eaves. The ground floor features various blocked openings, with a blank rendered bay on the right.

The block facing High Street, built in the late 19th century, is two storeys high and has a four-window range. It has a plinth, wooden gutter, and brackets. There are two large 12-pane sash windows, with a similar re-glazed window to the left, all featuring brick flat arches. To the right, there is a loft door with a 20th-century hoist above it, and below, a boarded door with a blocked overlight, flanked to the left by two boarded-up windows, all with brick flat arches. To the right, there is a double door with a hoist door above it between floors. The lower single-storey rear range adds to the overall structure.

This building is recognized as an important example of the characteristic 18th-century buildings of the Old Harbour.
