Description

42 and 43 High Street are two former warehouses, now used as offices and workshops. They were built in 1828 and restored and converted in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with a painted ashlar plinth and dressings, and they have four storeys plus a basement. The symmetrical front features a six-window range. On the left side, each floor has a former loft door that has been reglazed as a wooden cross casement, flanked by single segment-headed barred windows. The central window on the fourth floor has an additional light to the right. The basement includes a central segment-headed board door with a grille.

On the right side of the front, there is a blank window flanked by single 12-pane sash windows with brick flat arches. Above this, on the two upper floors, are four smaller barred windows with segmental heads. To the left, there is a round-arched carriage entrance with a pair of board doors and grilles above, and to the right, three 12-pane sash windows. The left return has patterned wall ties and eight segment-headed barred windows on the three upper floors, while the ground floor has three segment-headed windows, with those on the right being barred. The right return features a former loft door on each floor, reglazed as a wooden cross casement, flanked on the left by two and on the right by three segment-headed barred windows on each floor. The ground floor has a French window replacing the loft door.
