Description

38A High Street is a warehouse built around 1830, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick and features corrugated sheet roofs. The building stands four storeys tall. The street-facing side has five windows, a painted rendered plinth, and wooden gutter brackets. There are central taking-in doorways on the lower three floors, each with double plank doors. The upper two floors still have their wooden taking-in shelves supported on chains, and the top door includes a projecting hoist.

On the ground floor, there are two late 20th-century casement windows on the left, a cross casement window, and a barred window on the right. The first floor features two barred windows on either side. The second floor has a two-light casement window and a barred window on the left, and a blank and barred window on the right. The top floor contains five barred windows.

The rear gabled front has two shuttered openings on each floor and a further rear wing to the right. This wing is also four storeys tall with irregular window placement, and has a narrow front facing the rear. This rear front has central taking-in doorways on the lower two floors, each flanked by a single shuttered opening. Above, there is a broad taking-in doorway and a single shuttered opening to the left, followed by another single taking-in doorway above.
