Description

The hydraulic tower and pump house, located 50 metres south-east of St Andrew's Dock in Kingston upon Hull, is a disused structure built around 1870, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The rectangular tower has two stages, characterized by rebated eaves and a flat top that once supported a tank. The longer sides of the tower include two tall round-headed recesses that contain narrow round-headed windows, while the shorter sides have two closely spaced windows of a similar design.

Attached to the south is a single-storey pump house, which also has rebated eaves and coped gables. The west side of the pump house features six recessed bays separated by pilasters, where each bay originally housed a round-headed window. Currently, these windows are blocked, but the fourth bay has had a doorway with a concrete lintel added, and the sixth bay still shows the head of the original window. Additionally, the south gable includes a round window. This building is part of the ancillary structures of St Andrew's Dock and likely served to provide power for operating the lock gates.
