2 pairs of houses, now offices. c1880, with late C20 alterations. Yellow brick with ashlar dressings, rendered gables and slate roofs with single ridge, 2 gable and single single party wall stacks. Each pair is of similar design with detail variations. 2 storeys plus basements and attics; 6 window range. Nos 254 & 256, to right, have Gothic detailing. Plinth and machicolated eaves. In the centre, 2 plain sashes with lintels and segment-arched hoodmoulds. On either side, 2 plain sashes with pointed-arched heads and hoodmoulds. Above, 2 large through-eaves dormers with shouldered pointed-arched gables with finials, each with a round-arched plain sash with pointed hoodmould. Below, central double-arched stone porch with columns on pedestals and arch brackets to segmental pointed hoods, with elliptical-arched shell interiors and hoodmoulds. Recessed half-glazed panelled doors with overlights. On either side, a canted stone bay window with arch brackets to segmental pointed hoods with elliptical-arched shell interiors. 3 plain sashes to left, three C20 casements to right. Nos 258 & 260, to left, have in the centre 2 plain sashes, flanked by paired plain sashes, all with round heads and hoodmoulds. Above, 2 shouldered ogee gabled through-eaves dormers, each with a round-arched plain sash and hoodmould. Below, central corniced wooden portico with 2 recessed half-glazed doors with overlights, approached by stone steps. On either side, a corniced wooden bay window with carved capitals and 3 plain sashes.
