Description
The cupola from the old town hall is located on the west side of Pearson Park in Kingston upon Hull. It was designed by Cuthbert Brodrick between 1862 and 1866 and was relocated after the town hall was demolished in 1912. The structure is made of ashlar and features a cast-iron and lead finial. It has a circular base with three steps that supports a drum adorned with moulded round-arched openings and a deep cornice with moulded brackets. Above this, there is an ogee dome that includes a ring of moulded oval openings near the base and a wavy incised line above them. At the top, the cupola is capped with a deeply fluted section and an elaborate finial. This cupola is a remaining piece of one of the two major buildings designed by Brodrick in his hometown, as his Royal Institution in Albion Street was destroyed during World War II.
