Description

Studley House is a house of 1862, designed by FW Hagen. It is built of yellow brick with ashlar and stucco dressings, and has a hipped slate roof with three coped side wall stacks. The building has a plinth, first-floor sill and lintel bands, and wooden eaves with modillions. It is two storeys plus attics, with a five-window front. The windows are plain sashes with segmental heads and moulded lintels. Above, there are three segment-arched dormers, the central one being larger and containing a two-light casement window. A central stucco portico features panelled pilasters, an enriched frieze and a modillion cornice, with arch braces to the opening. Within the portico is a half-glazed panelled door, sidelights, and a plain fanlight. To either side of the portico are single canted bay windows with enriched pilasters, a frieze and a modillion cornice, and three plain sashes. Each return of the house has a dormer window. The left return has two plain sashes, and below one, a square wooden bay window with a cornice.
