Description
No. 54, Pearson Park is a house built in the late 19th century for Joseph Fox Sharpe, the Borough Engineer, designed by G.B. Nicholls of West Bromwich. It is constructed of yellow brick with stucco dressings and has gabled and hipped slate roofs, featuring two coped side wall stacks. The building has a plinth, sill bands, dentillated eaves, and a pediment. It is two storeys high plus a basement, with a five-window front. The windows are plain sashes. The left wing features two round-arched windows, each with moulded heads, corbels and keystones, beneath a pediment. Below these, a round-cornered bay window has enriched scroll brackets to its entablature, alongside three plain sashes, with curved glass in the side lights. The left return exhibits a recessed, two-storey hipped projection with a single window. To the right of the main facade is a round-arched window with a moulded head and keystone, followed by two segment-headed windows with moulded surrounds and keystones. On the ground floor, a six-bay cast-iron verandah has a lean-to roof and round cast-iron posts linked by a latticework railing. To the left of the verandah are stone steps leading to a stucco doorcase, which has pilasters and a four-panel door. To the right of the verandah there are two French windows with pilasters and overlights. Further to the right is a recessed, two-storey hipped addition with a single window, and a hipped garage.
