Description
The Station-master's house, built in 1846, is likely designed by G T Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway. It features red brick construction with slate roofs and has an L-shaped plan across two storeys. The building has an ashlar plinth and a sill band. The entrance consists of a four-panelled door with an overlight that has intersecting glazing bars, set in a pilastered doorcase at the re-entrant angle. To the left of the entrance is a sash window with glazing bars, which is topped by a cambered gauged brick arch.
On the first floor, there is an ashlar sill band above two smaller sash windows with glazing bars. The rear range includes a sash window with glazing bars and a sill, flanked by two 20th-century sashes that have radial glazing, which were formed from blocked round-headed doors. The house features an impost band and a first-floor band, as well as another sash window with glazing bars. The end elevation has a canted bay with sash windows that also have glazing bars, and there is a first-floor band above. The eaves overhang, and the main range has paired axial stacks with strainer arches, along with an axial stack on the rear range.
