Description
27 High Stile is a mid-19th century police station that has been converted into a doctors' surgery. The building is constructed of grey brick with stone dressings and features a timber eaves cornice and a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-bay elevation, with a single-storey extension to the right.
The structure includes a plinth and rusticated quoins. The central entrance consists of a four-panel bolection-moulded door beneath a fanlight, framed by a rusticated door surround that has projecting plain imposts and a round arch with a sunk moulded panel. On either side of the door, there are sash windows with glazing bars, each having a moulded sill band and set under cambered gauged brick arches. The first floor features three smaller sash windows with similar moulded sill bands. The eaves overhang on a bracketed timber cornice, and there is an axial stack on a hipped roof. The extension to the right contains a sash window with glazing bars, a sill, and iron bars.
