Description
Leven House is a house built in the early 19th century, with late 19th-century extensions on the right. It is constructed of light brown brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The original part of the house is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring a symmetrical design. There are two-storey canted bays with segmental sides at each end. The central entrance consists of a six-panel double-leaf door beneath a fanlight, set within a Doric porch that has an entablature and blocking course. This entrance is flanked by sash windows with sills and glazing bars, which are topped with wedge lintels. On the first floor, there are nine-pane unequal sashes. The eaves cornice is supported by paired brackets, and there are stacks at both ends and along the axial line. The extensions to the right are not considered to be of special interest. Inside, there is a fine early 19th-century cut-string staircase featuring fluted stick balusters, scrolled tread ends, and a wreathed handrail. The interior doors are six-panel designs set in fluted cases with paterae.
