Description
Nos 57 and 58 on Saturday Market in Beverley were built in 1777 by William Middleton. The building is three storeys high, constructed of painted brick with a plain tile roof featuring an interesting arrangement of chimneys along the skyline. It has a shaped bracketed timber modillion eaves cornice. The top floor has four windows with painted brick voussoirs, while the first floor features three canted bays from around 1840, each with moulded entablatures. The windows are hung sashes without glazing bars. There are two shop fronts: one modern and one from the 19th century with modern glazing. The gable end displays tumbled brickwork and moulded kneelers. The garden front facing Lairgate is also three storeys tall, made of red brick with a plain tile roof and one dormer. It has a wood modillion eaves cornice, two vase-shaped fluted rainwater heads, and downpipes. A late 18th-century chimney is located at the center, and there are four windows with gauged flat arches.
