Description
Numbers 26 and 28 Lairgate were built as the Beverley Savings Bank in 1843. This two-storey building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. It has five bays, with the central three bays projecting forward. These are adorned with Greek Ionic pilasters that have carved stone capitals, supporting a simple entablature topped by a pediment that contains a tablet. The first-floor windows are detailed with key blocks and cills, and there is a flat band beneath them, with a panel in the center bay. The windows are hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are arranged in pairs with a central stone mullion. The building also features moulded consoles and shield cornices, although one cornice is missing. There is a plinth at the base, and each bay has a doorway with a plain architrave and shelf cornice, leading to a six-panel door and fanlight.
