Description
The Hedon and District Royal British Legion Headquarters and Club Ltd, located at 4 Magdalen Gate, is a building dating from 1801 that originally served as a Baptist chapel. It is constructed of brown brick and features a hipped pantile roof with a single tall stack. The façade includes two doors, each with six fielded panels and a blind semi-circular fanlight that has intersecting glazing bars. The central bay projects slightly and contains a round-arched sash window with intersecting glazing bars. Above this window is an oval ashlar plaque inscribed with the words "BUILT BY SUBSCRIPTION 1801. Christ is head over all things to the Church. Ephs. Ch.1.v.22. Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matt: Ch.xviii.v.20."
