Description
Lockwood Baptist Chapel, built in 1850, is a two-storey structure made of ashlar with a pitched slate roof. The building features a moulded eaves cornice and a blocking course, with angle pilasters at the corners. The gable end is pedimented and includes a plaque in the tympanum that reads "Baptist Chapel. Erected AD 1792. Rebuilt AD 1850." On the first floor, there are three round-arched windows with glazing bars, the central window being Venetian and over-arched, supported by four Tuscan piers at the moulded transom. The ground floor has two windows with glazing bars and moulded surrounds, with blind sunk panels above them. The entrance consists of double doors with six moulded panels and a fanlight with glazing bars, all set within a Tuscan porch that has an entablature and blocking course. The chapel also has six ranges of sashes with glazing bars, with the first-floor windows being round-arched. Adjacent to the chapel is a cemetery that contains some notable 19th-century tombs and monuments.
